Imaging Procedures

The University of Wisconsin Fundus Photograph Reading Center (UW-FPRC) is now accepting certifications for the NEI-VER2 Study. We welcome back the photographers who participated in the original VERTACL study and welcome the new photographers joining the team. The major imaging procedure change in this study is the addition of digital color imaging for the fundus and retinal images when the correct digital system resolution and software are available.

The “UW-FPRC Forms, Labeling, Shipping Information” is a PDF document containing all the UW-FPRC documents related to VERT2 including shipping and labeling information. Within this document are the “UW-FPRC Photographer Certification Request Form” and the “UW-FPRC Color Digital System Certification Request Form”, the “UW-FPRC Digital Angiography System Certification Request Form” and the “Supply Request Form.”

The UW-FPRC requires that all photographers be certified for taking these images. The procedures used for VERT2 will be the “UW-FPRC’s modified 3-standard field color photography and fundus reflex procedure”, which can be imaged digitally (3M-D) or on 35 mm film (3M-F). The angiogram procedures will be the standard fluorescein angiogram, which will be imaged digitally (FA-D). Details of these procedures can be found in the “UW-FPRC Imaging Procedures” document. Any digital system to be used for digital color or angiogram images must be certified for each procedure, as well as the photographer for this study.

Photographer Certification. All photographers are required to submit a “UW-FPRC Photographer Certification Form”. The completed form should be sent to the UW-FPRC with any necessary certification materials. If no materials are required then the form can be faxed. Review the details in the “UW-FPRC Imaging Procedures” document, Section 1-Photographer Certification, to determine if certification materials are required.

Digital System Certification. Each digital system that will be used for VERT2 images must be certified. A site can use digital images for angiograms only or for color and angiograms. When using digital color a “UW-FPRC Digital Color System Certification Request Form” must be filled out for each system and sent to the FPRC, along with necessary certification materials. A “UW-FPRC Digital Angiography System Certification Request Form” should be filled out for each angiogram system to be used as well and sent to the FPRC with any materials required for certification. If no materials are needed then the form can be faxed. Review the details in the “UW-FPRC Imaging Procedures” document.
