The University of Wisconsin Fundus Photograph Reading Center (UW-FPRC) is excited to announce that we have been selected to be the Reading Center for AREDS2. For those of you who worked with us in AREDS I, we welcome you back! To those of you who have worked with us on other studies, we look forward to adding you to the AREDS2 team; and to those of you who are new to us, we look forward to helping you to understand the Reading Center processes and procedures.
The "UW-FPRC Imaging Procedures" is a .pdf document containing all of the UW-FPRC documents related to AREDS2, including shipping and labeling information. Within the “UW-FPRC Imaging Procedures” document are the "UW-FPRC Photographer Certification Request Form", the "UW-FPRC Digital Color System Certification Request Form" and the "Supply Request Form".
The UW-FPRC requires that all photographers be certified for taking these images. The procedure for the AREDS2 will be the UW-FPRC’s modified 3-standard fields color photography and fundus reflex procedure, which can be imaged digitally (3M-D) or on 35mm film (3M-F). Details of these procedures can be found in the "UW-FPRC Imaging Procedures" document. Please remember if imaging digitally, it is necessary to certify the digital system.
Photographer Certification. All photographers are required to submit a "UW-FPRC Photographer Certification Request Form". It should be filled out and sent to the UW-FPRC with any necessary certification materials. If no materials are necessary the form can be faxed. Review the details in the "UW-FPRC Imaging Procedures" document, Section 1-Photographer Certification, to determine if certification materials are required.
Digital System Certification. If a photographer will be imaging digitally each system to be used must also be certified. A "UW-FPRC Digital Color System Certification Request Form" should be filled out for each system and sent to the UW-FPRC with any necessary certification materials. If no materials are necessary the form can be faxed. Review the details in the "UW-FPRC Imaging Procedures" document, Section 4-Digtial System Certification, to determine if certification materials are required. Sites electing to take digital stereo color fundus photographs must use a 3 mega-pixel or higher resolution color digital camera system.

Guidelines for Patients Progressing to Advanced AMD. Advanced AMD events may be reviewed by the UW-FPRC in the context of fluorescein angiograms and/or optical coherence tomography (OCT) readings taken at the time of the clinical diagnosis of progression to advanced AMD. Please reference the UW-FPRC’s "Generic OCT-3 Procedure" as a guideline for taking OCT and the fluorescein angiogram section of the UW-FPRC’s "Generic AMD Procedure" as a guideline for performing angiography.
